RIVETING Short Video of the Wise Men
I fully understand that this Vignette about the Wise Men does not fall within the Christmas season! However, today is the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, and I simply couldn’t wait until Christmas to share this uniquely marvelous short video which features Joseph in a leading role. It is visual art at its finest.
The 4-minute video is actually a compilation of several clips from a 2019 movie called The Christ Child: a Nativity Story and set to music. This scene is one of the most moving experiences you could ever imagine. It envisions the Magi at the end of their long journey to Bethlehem, where they actually encounter the Christ Child and offer Him their worship and gifts.
As would have happened in the ancient world, the movie accurately portrays the community dimension of the encounter. The Magi and their entourage did not just show up at the Holy Family’s front door.
Rather, they arrive in the small town, and the townsfolk immediately call Joseph to the scene. As he comes face to face with the visitors, he looks around in astonishment at the entourage and doesn’t quite know what to make of it.
He then escorts them to the humble home he shares with Mary and the Child. The reactions of Joseph, Our Lady, the Christ Child, and the Wise Men at that moment are simply riveting.
Combined with the evocative music, in fact, they are overwhelming. It is an imaginative scene that you think might have happened just as they portrayed it.
I won’t spoil the encounter for you, but I dare you to keep a dry eye when you watch this precious clip.
